On Thursday I spent the day at the MIMA Summit in Minneapolis. www.MIMASummit.org
It was regaled by the most seasoned Keynoters, as one of the best event of it’s kind! Outrageous accommodation pricing at SXSW be damned. So yeah, I was happy to shell out the $700 to attend.
Fave Learning? Everyone should take a hallucinogenic and head into the desert once a year like the totally inspired Oliver Luckett @revilopark @TheAudience or www.TheAudience.com. From his trip in the desert, he was able to put together a parallel between social media systems and systems occurring organically within nature. See his slides here and watch his keynote here.
Throughout the day the “investigate” page within my Evernote grew.
Here’s a (in) complete list of what every digital marketing maverick must know… yup, today...
Shazam We’ve all used Shazam to find out about music playing around us, but check this out: Read about it’s new digital recognition and how Target is utilizing it.
Snapchat @Snapchat Everyone concurred...It’s SO relevant. Your kids are using it, but so soon will everyone else… Check out Snapchat Discover to see how brands are (rudimentarily) using Snapchat…. it’s a dreamers game there, and ripe for innovative minds.
Pinterest Your mom isn’t the only one on Pinterest! The platform is quickly becoming a shopping hub with clickable links to purchase… For that matter, if you like the DIY kinda thing, you can see how easily Houzz is becoming a powerhouse too.
Now for some of the newer, cooler apps that should be on your radar:
Taptalk “Share the Moment” seems like snapchat redeaux to me… but easily snapping video to text is always cool. Here's the app
Newsgif “the news summarized in gif” fun and fantastic. I say “Download NOW!"
Phhhoto It’s an addictive photo app that snaps a quick progression of four pictures and instantly strings them together to create a gif for the Instagram obsessed. Now that FB allows for gif as profile pictures, it’s the perfect compliment to do a new profile picture each day! (yeah, right) Download when you have time to play
Stellar Like the Squarespace of iPhone video editing. Select gorgeous themes and make something shareable on multiple platforms. I’m giving this a #forimmediatedownload
Pictophile You can stich together pictures and gifs in any "willy nilly fashion like"... whatever that means??? Seriously, only got two stars outta five so I'm not in a huge hurry to DL. However Pictophile Pro received 5 out of 5 from users... Pay $1.99 to play...
Rif Seriously, the guy taking a cr*p was a bit much for me, but the video describes what this (possibly?) addictive app can do…And it’s got a 6 star rating…. I say get it
Bitmoji So, a few of my gal pals have sent me texts using these emojis, and now I know where they got them. Seems like now that I've seen others doing it, it just doesn’t seem cool to build out a feisty red head… but I might download it anyway...
Flipogram Seriously… Vine seems so pas·sé to me… but Flipogram? Snap your videos or pictures together, add cool graphics over, select from tons of good (maybe not great…. I couldn’t find my favorite, of the moment, song…) music, then post to whichever platform your follows will care about…. It’s super fun so tap here now
Cute or Not Forget the creative brief sitting on your desk… cute or not will take up your whole damn morning… then, after, you scroll Buzzfeed (its developer) and there goes the whole damn day. Are they gonna own media??
Viggle “I used to love her, but I had to kill her” reviewers agree… I suggest researching this app, because, like so many before her, it started out GREAT… I mean a GENIUS idea (and we love the idea, right?) Watch your favorite TV show, or better yet, -sports. Check in, and get points, which USED to be available for cool stuff.. think of your credit card rewards… but now, it’s become a raffle system-bleh.. Here in the great North, the meat raffle is the thing, if you can believe it … if you’re always thinking about how big advertising can monetize popular culture though, research it here and here
Peel get your pronto device at Best Buy ($50bucks) then, you can download the Peel App and use your smartphone as a universal remote. For advertisers, this is a built in analytics goldmine…
Crowd Tangle "It’s like Facebook trending topics, but on crack,” So you want to know what is trending? Find it here… I can’t imagine a company who engages people NOT using this product… However, I wonder this: if Crowdtangle and its algorithms become the leader in what’s trending, then don’t they get to decide what’s trending? I mean really, if popular culture is trending on one set of algorithms, then we’re going to become pretty myopic pretty quickly… (as if we haven’t already…) This is old (1/15/15) but worth reading about Crowdtangle.
And for god sakes! Request your beta version
FB Signal Journalists (and advertising nerds like us) use Signal to surface relevant trends, photos, videos and posts from Facebook and Instagram for use in their storytelling and reporting. Every creative should be wasting hours with this for inspiration (?) Signal is available at no cost to journalists. If you are a journalist (we’re journalists, sort of) you can request access to Signal here.
Twitter Curator more trending on Twitter and Vine… curates good Tweets on a given subject. #getithere
That's the sum total of what's hot, happening, and #trending....
